After this date, accommodations will be subject to availability.

University of Toronto housing is available at Victoria University and 89 Chestnut Residences. The dormitory residences are a 10 -15 minute walk from Convocation Hall, the primary meeting venue. Guests should be aware that these are college dormitories and while they are clean and comfortable, they should not be compared to hotels. The Front Desk is open 24 hours and the staff will do whatever it can to ensure that your stay is enjoyable. Please note that there are two housing options; Victoria University and 89 Chestnut Residences, descriptions of the facilities and fees are below.

Accommodations at Victoria University in the University of Toronto

 

Victory University’s ivy-covered campus is a peaceful and secluded space in the heart of a bustling and culturally-rich city. Our modest but comfortable residences are just steps from the Museum subway, and a short walk to major attractions, shopping and a wide range of restaurants to suit every taste and budget.


All rooms are dormitory-style with either one or two single beds, dressers, closet, desks and chairs. Washrooms are shared with an average ratio of 4 guests per bathroom. Linens are provided. Each residence floor has a shared kitchen with fridge and a common room with TV.

 

There are laundry facilities in each building, and laundry cards can be purchased at the Front Desk in Margaret Addison Hall.

 

Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first served basis, and notwithstanding special needs expressed by guests, Victoria University reserves the right to assign rooms at its discretion.

Arrival is July 22 after 4 pm, checking out by 11 am July 27 2008. The cost for 5 nights’ accommodation is $297.50 pp single, $201.25 pp double, plus applicable taxes (currently 12%, subject to change). Rates include full hot breakfast in the Burwash Dining Hall each day.
 

Burwash Hall (BW on campus MAP)

The Upper Houses (North, Middle, South and Gate) were built in 1913. Upper houses have single, double, and loft double rooms (bunk bed above desk). Each floor has a kitchenette and small eating area and each house has a common room on the main floor. Cable television is provided in each of the common rooms. Washrooms are shared.

 

Margaret Addison Hall (MG on campus MAP)

Built in 1959, Margaret Addison Hall is a modern six-storey building housing with double and single rooms. Kitchenettes are available for use on each floor and washrooms are shared. Cable television is provided in each of the six common rooms.

 

Rowell Jackman Hall (RJ on campus MAP)

Rowell Jackman Hall is an apartment-style residence which opened in November 1993. Each apartment unit houses 3 to 7 guests in both single and double rooms, and includes 1-2 washrooms, a shared kitchen (with stove, fridge and microwave), and a living/dining room. Cable television is provided in the common living area within each suite. Particular suites throughout the building have been designed to accommodate residents who require accessibility related accommodations, and the building is accessible from the parkade level for residents with such needs.

To request a roommate, please indicate that person’s name on the registration form (only those guests respectively requesting one-another will be honored).

Guests are very welcome to extend their stay in either direction, subject to availability, to enjoy summer in Canada’s largest and most culturally-diverse citry. Additional nights are $59.50 pp single or $40.25 pp. All meals offer vegetarian selections, however any other dietary preferences must be discussed at least one month in advance with Victoria University Conference Services. Due to the set-up of our kitchen, we cannot guarantee nut-free meals.

 

Payment

Reservations will be confirmed upon receipt of full payment accompanied by a completed registration form. Payment may be made by cheque drawn on a Canadian bank, international money order, Visa or MasterCard. Cheques and money orders should be made payable to Victoria. Victoria University charges $30 for all returned checks.

 

Confirmations

Once the reservation form is received with full payment, a confirmation letter will be sent with specific check-in information. Included in this document will be travel directions and information about useful items to bring. All guests of Victory University check in at Margaret Addison Hall, 140 Charles Street West.
 

Cancellations

If cancellation is received, in writing, by Victoria University’s Conference Services Office before Friday, June 13 2008, the prepayment, less a $50 administrative fee will be refunded.

If the cancellation is received after June 13 but before July 7 the prepayment will be refunded less a $100 administrative fee.

Any cancellations received after July 7 are unfortunately not eligible for any refund as housing and food guarantees are not adjustable two weeks prior to the start of the conference.

 


 

Accommodations at 89 Chestnut Residence

 

89 Chestnut is a University of Toronto residence hall in the heart of downtown Toronto. During the summer months, 89 Chestnut Residence is available for conference attendees. It is a university residence with the look and feel of a hotel. The rooms are all double occupancy. Each room has a private bathroom with a hair dryer and toiletries. All rooms have air conditioning and a direct dial telephone for free local calls. The main dining area will serve breakfast each morning. The buffet meals will be cafeteria style. The front desk is open 24 hours. Housekeeping services are not provided on a daily basis.
 

Reservations

The room rate is $99 Canadian plus applicable taxes (currently 5% PST and 6% GST) per room, per night. The room rate includes a full breakfast. Reservations can be made by calling (416) 977-0707 or online at 89 Chestnut Residences, click on create new account and then enter the approval code Genetics. Once you have created your profile, you can proceed with your reservation. Reservations booked online can only be changed online. All rooms must be reserved in advance and guaranteed by a Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit card. A guaranteed room will be held until midnight on the day of arrival. Check-in time is between 3:00 pm and 11:00 pm.
 

Payment

Full payment is due upon arrival. You can pay with cash or an approved credit card. No checks are accepted. 89 Chestnut cannot accept debit cards nor are there facilities for exchanging other currencies but local banks are close.
 

Cancellation

Any cancellation must be done 48 hours prior to arrival or one night’s accommodations will be made. A cancellation number will be provided for your records.
